Hyalite Ice Climbing

Bozeman, Montana

Overview:

Climb in one of America's most consistent and concentrated ice climbing venues, Hyalite Canyon. Ranging from beginner flows such as the Genesis area to modern mixed test pieces like the Nutcracker, Hyalite has it wide array of accessible and classic ice. Being where I live and work every winter, many opportunities are abound for custom trips given your skill level and group size. Reach out for inspiration!

Hyalite Canyon is stacked with over 150 naturally forming ice flows, some of which are only a 10 minute walk from the car. Being in SW Montana, crowds are usually non existent. For those looking for an adventure, it is not uncommon to hike upwards of 45 minutes to approach some of the classic multi pitch routes, such as the Dribbles and Cleopatra's Needle. The rest of us, whether we are looking for a challenge or an instructional day, might find ourselves cragging classic mixed routes at the Unnamed wall or spinning laps at G1.

Situated just 45 minutes South of Bozeman, Hyalite is best accessed via day trips from town. Most climbers decide to fly into Bozeman, a hotspot for skiers, climbers, and outdoor enthusiasts alike. Rest days are best spent at the nearby Bozeman Hotsprings, Yellowstone National Park, or even at the nearby Bridger and Big Sky Ski Resorts.
