Geyikbayiri Rock Retreat
Escape winter this year with a trip to the Mediterranean in Turkey. With myself, an AMGA Certified Rock Guide, and my wife Anju, a Turkish born translator, you'll have the chance to experience some of the world's most unique climbing while being immersed in the local culture.
On this exclusive trip to the Lycian coast, you can expect world class rock climbing, inviting locals, and truly relaxing vistas and campgrounds. This experience, perhaps the only one offered, was designed for the climber in need of some exploration and a retreat from normal life! It is perfect for those who have experience sport climbing or even just in the gym and want to test their skills on real rock.
Although flexible, our baseline trip takes place over 9 days in Geyikbayiri. With only one stop (in Istanbul) on your way to and from the region, travel is safe and easy.
We begin by picking you up at the airport in Antalya and heading straight to our accomodations. Situated up in the mountains less than an hour above the metropolis of Antalya, the air is slightly cooler and less humid. The campground itself offers small bungalows (pictured above) just a stones throw from some of the best climbs in the region. With local beverages to compliment dinner and fresh pomegranates from the garden, the humble accommodations suit all of your needs. Depending on your climbing background and desire, we tailor the upcoming days to provide the best experience. Rain or shine, the cliffs offer ample opportunity for amazing climbing.
For rest and cultural activities, either half or full day, there are plenty of options locally. Every week, the nearby Bazaar is packed with Turkish cuisine, fresh local products, and unique souvenirs. The Mediterranean coast, along with the tourist destination of Antalya, is just a short drive away. A visit to town for a Hamam, or Turkish bath, is a must-do experience after a few days of climbing. If you're in need of a short hike, the Lycian Way starts right behind camp and can take you up to a spectacular ruin. Daily yoga and meditation sessions can be provided as well.
For an additional cost, a trip to Olympos can be arranged. Less than two hours away, this beach town hosts ancient Greek ruins, incredible swimming, and more rock climbing. The climbing here is accessed by boat and there is even opportunity for deep water soloing, depending on conditions.
